Maybank Highway and River Road on John’s
Island
Today, drivers on their way to Johns Island experience
congestion on Maybank Highway in the afternoon as they return from
Charleston Maybank Highway seems to become busier every year as
the Maybank Highway Corridor continues to develop. Glatting Jackson
recognized that the City of Charleston’s Johns Island Plan
recommends expanding Johns Island’s street network to give
drivers opportunities to avoid traffic chokepoints on Maybank Highway.
By creating this street network as the Maybank Corridor develops,
the land uses needed to serve the people of Johns Island will be
built with the transportation network to service the new businesses
on the island.
Implementation of the transportation component of
the Johns Island Plans will also provide quality of life benefits
for Johns Island such as more local retail, dining, and services.
Residents on Johns Island will be able to spend less time in traffic
and more time with their families enjoying the Lowcountry character
that these plans protect. |
